Demian Gawianski

is a teacher of Spanish as a Second Language in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Also fluent in English, French, and Portugese, he is dedicated to the study of different languages and cultures, currently studying German, Old Greek, Latin, and Sanskrit. He taught workshops on the language and culture of tango in the USA in 2007 and also in 2009 and at the New Zealand Tango Festival in 2008.

Listen to and translate the iconic tango song "Malena". Translation will have a focus on the culture of tango as revealed in the tango lyrics. Previous Spanish knowledge not required for his 90-minute free class at 13:00 on Saturday.

Gawianski will present his books on Friday and Saturday night at the tangoballs. His first book is Buenos Aires Experience, Enjoy the Tango of Learning Spanish. It is an Argentine Spanish language course book with 2 CDs, mainly addressed to English speaking Tango lovers who want to learn the language in combination with Tango poetry and with the culture of the city. He has also translated the book of poems Listening Inside the Dance: A Beginners Journey into Tango, by 2006-Poet Laureate of Belfast, Maine, Elizabeth Garber.
